THIEVES targeted two cash machines in the Scottish Borders during the early hours of this morning, Saturday February 26 2022.
The first attempt to steal an ATM took place at the petrol station on Melrose Road, Earlston shortly before 5am then around an hour later a similar attempt was made to steal another machine from outside the Co-op store in Jedburgh.
Neither attempt was successful, and the culprits left empty-handed.
Officers say that three men were spotted at the scene of one of the incidents.
The Co-op store in Jedburgh is currently cordoned off to allow for a forensic examination of the locus.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a petrol station on Melrose Road, Earlston, around 4.50am to a report of an unsuccessful attempted theft of an ATM machine by three men.
“Later, police were called to a shop on the High Street in Jedburgh around 5.45am to a report of an attempted theft of an ATM. Three men were spotted at the scene but were unsuccessful in their attempt.
“Enquiries are at an early stage and are ongoing.”
