REPAIR works on safety barriers will take place at a Borders village this month, road officials have warned.

They are planned for the A1 at Grantshouse on Tuesday (May 14) from 8pm to 6am.

The road will be closed in both directions between the Ayton and Tower Farm junctions, according to BEAR Scotland.

A diversion will be signposted via the A1107, adding around nine minutes and 1.2 miles onto affected journeys, officials say.

James Petrie, BEAR Scotland’s south east network bridges manager, said: “These works are required to finish the repairs to the existing vehicle road safety system.

“It is essential for the safety of road users and our workforce that we implement these traffic management measures during the works. To minimise disruption, we have planned these works to be undertaken overnight. Some delays should, however, be expected.

“We advise motorists to check live traffic information before travelling and thank them in advance for their patience and understanding.”
