MORE than 1,000 young athletes will head for Grangemouth this week looking to land a coveted Scottish Schools title.
And amongst them are around a dozen serious medals contenders from the Borders.
Dominic O’Hare from Peebles High and Galashiels Academy’s Thomas Otton will both hope to progress to the final of the Over 17s 1500 metres along with Gavin Bryson from Earlston High.
Fellow Peebles High pupil Kobe Stevens will be amongst the front runners in the Over 17s 800 metres.
Jedburgh Grammar’s Cameron Clamp will look to follow up his indoor success with a crack at the Under 17s 400 metres.
And both Bryony Patterson and Ellie O’Hara from Peebles High will be expected to challenge in their respective long jump and triple jump age groups.
Competition at the Grangemouth track continues tomorrow.
And many current Scottish champions have Scottish Schools titles on their CVs.
Selkirk High’s Zaynah Aziz will make her competitive debut over fences in the Under 17s 1500 metres steeplechase.
Another with a medal shout is Peebles High’s Niamh Shaw in the Over 17s 1500 metres.
And Rosie Brown, fresh from her district championships win, will hope to go highest in the Under 15s polevault.
