Peebles Army Cadet Detachment is set to return to the Borders as part of a reshuffle at Lothian and Borders Battalion (Bn.) Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Since the amalgamation of the Lothian Bn. ACF with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB) Bn. ACF in 1992, Peebles has been part of E Company, linked with detachments in Midlothian - but from August 1, Army Cadets from Peebles will return to their rightful home alongside their colleagues across the Borders including those in Galashiels, Hawick and Duns as part of a newly enlarged Company.

But it's not just the joining of Peebles that will happen on this date - B Company which currently covers most of the Borders will also be changing its designation to that of Minden Company as part of an overall restructure will allow the Battalion to meet the increasing demands from new recruits to join.

This is a significant change, as prior to the merger of the regular Scottish Regiments into the Royal Regiment of Scotland, Army Cadets in the Borders were proudly badged to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers which in 1759 played it's part in the Battle of Minden - something which is still to this day commemorated annually on 'Minden Day', August 1 - by many people around the globe including KOSB veterans & supporters as well as serving members of 1st Battalion, The Royal Scots Borderers.

Speaking of the changes, Company Commander Major Alan Cook was pleased to have Peebles joining with the rest of the Borders detachments.

He said: "Having Peebles become one of the newly named Minden Company's detachments is a great move for the Company and Battalion as a whole, it allows the old Borders Company to really encapsulate the whole of the area and will allow us to move forward in our aim of offering real development opportunity to the young people of the Borders in a wide range of civilian and military orientated activities."
