St Boswells Live! have announced an evening of jazz music to bring in the seasonal spirit.

If you like jazz, then you’ll love this evening, Saturday december 6 – a perfect night to get you in the swing, and feeling all festive.

Headlining the evening and back for a welcome return visit to St Boswells Live! are The Alex Yellowlees Quartet.

One of the finest exponents of jazz in Scotland is Alex Yellowlees, Scotland’s premier jazz violinist, who has dazzled and entertained audiences throughout Europe with his original realisation of the 'Hot Club’ style.

Ever the pioneer, Alex has sculpted his own musical voice over a lifetime of performance and recordings, drawing from his extensive experience of Celtic, blues and jazz genres you now can hear and share in the sonic marvel that is at the very core of the Alex Yellowlees band.

Mike Nisbet is an award winning graduate from the Leeds College of Music. His virtuoso guitar playing belies his years and he combines a musical maturity with a ferocious technique that is the envy of many a guitarist. A regular sideman for top acts, Mike’s work has included playing with the seminal group the 'Scottish Guitar Quartet’ as well as extensive radio and live appearances.

Ged Brockie regularly features on polls of the world’s top acoustic guitarists - although he is not confined to just acoustic guitar. He has worked extensively throughout Europe and the US and his solo band albums have received critical acclaim not only for the guitar playing but compositional talents. With eight recorded albums to his credit he regularly composes for film/media and is also co-curator of the Edinburgh Guitar and Music Festival.

Bass player Kenny Ellis has been at the forefront of the Scottish Jazz scene for over three decades. The list of American Jazz musicians he has played with reads like a who’s who from the jazz world: Lee Konitz, Bobby Watson, Sunny Stitt, Art Farmer and Carol Fontana are among the many. Kenny is a seminal bass player, known and respected throughout the world of jazz on both sides of the Atlantic.

Keith Farnish from St Boswells Live! told us: “We have no doubt you will be stunned by their musicianship and sheer good-times performance of a vast range of jazz and popular standards and original compositions.” Supporting the quartet are the Earlston High School Jazz band. Led by ace multi-instrumentalist Mike Haywood, the band comprise a wide range of talented musicians from throughout thelocal High School, including a couple of teachers.

Keith added: “They love playing music and we are sure you’ll give them your wholehearted support.
