A POLICE hunt for a flashing transvestite in Selkirk has failed to find its man.
Last Wednesday the man, who is believed to be around five-feet-nine-inches tall and in his late 50s, was seen with women’s clothes on in the Bannerfield area.
At around 8pm he exposed himself to a group of young girls in Montrose Place.
And a short time later, still wearing a black skirt and black wig, flashed again at two 16-year-old girls in the grounds of Philiphaugh school.
Officers patrolled Bannerfield and questioned residents last week in a bid to snare the flasher, who has been dubbed locally as the Banny Tranny.
But their efforts have so far led to dead ends.
Inspector Michael Bennett said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we intend to pursue all possible lines of enquiry to find the perpetrator.
“This was very distressing for the young women and we’re looking to speak to anyone who saw the exposures or the suspect, or who knows who he is, to come forward.” Similar incidents happened in Bannerfield during the 1990s when an elderly man in women’s clothes was reported to have flashed at youngsters.
But it is not believed the crimes are linked.
One parent told us: “There are all sorts of rumours flying around about who the Banny Tranny is - we just hope they catch him.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
