ANDREW Henderson scored two goals on debut to continue Gordon’s push for their first ever Division A title.
Henderson signed from local rivals Greenlaw and immediately made an impact as he struck in both halves while Gavin Brown sealed Gordon’s 3-1 win at Hawick Legion, whose goal came from Michael Moir.
Gordon have a game in hand on fellow table toppers Jed Legion, who thumped Chirnside United 4-0 at Elliot Park.
The goals from Derek McLachlan’s men included a 40 yard strike from Kyle Finlayson, as well as Craig Hall, Jamie Swailes and Gary Hunter.
Reigning league champions Leithen Rovers look unlikely to be challenging to retain their title after a 5-1 hammering at Langholm Legion.
Rovers made the long trip to the Muckle Toon’s new 3G pitch but doubles from Scott Collins, Brian Mattinson and a Lee Irving goal meant Tom Mcdonald’s goal for Rovers was just a consolation.
Jordan Yardley made his mark as Hawick Waverley beat Greenlaw 2-1 at Wilton Lodge Park.
Yardley said: “It was a great three points and I was delighted to score the winner to move us into fourth in the league.”
In Division B, Earlston Rhymers look set for another relegation battle after losing 4-0 at Hawick United.
Kevin Strathdee scored two while Danny Bolton and Robbie Kelly also got on the scoresheet. Earlston midfielder Bruce Hunter said: “We were terrible at best and need to start picking up some points soon.”
Rhymers are bottom after Linton Hotspur’s shock 2-1 win at Duns Reserves, while Gala Hotspur beat Coldstream Amateurs 3-2 thanks to a Shaun Hardie penalty, Michael Blackwood and Fraser Brown.
Tweeddale Rovers looked destined for promotion after smashing Tweedmouth Amateurs 4-0, with Jamie Mackay scoring two to extend the Peebles side’s lead to six points.
Eyemouth moved into second with a 4-2 win at Ancrum, with top scorer Jamie Logie finding the net again.
Top played bottom in Division C and it was not a surprise to see Newtown chalk up a 7-1 win over Melrose, with braces for Andrew Crawford, Louis Blacklock and Scott Leitch.
Biggar United beat Lauder 4-2, who share top place with Newtown, and there were also wins for Selkirk Victoria, Kelso Thistle and Peebles Amateurs.
