A Peebles photographer is using her skills to raise cash for local groups and charities this Christmas.
Angela Preston has turned a wintery image she captured of the Scott Brash sculpture, next to Edinburgh Road, into a Christmas card.
Angela took the image of the iron sculpture last January during a snowfall and, after the photo received a positive reaction on social media, decided to turn it into a festive card.
As co-founder of the not-for-profit organization A Gift for Peebles, she opted to sell the card to raise funds for the organization which in turn supports several local groups and charities.
Angela said: “The Scott Brash sculpture is a magnificent welcome to our town and looked even more striking covered in snow. I shared the photo on my Facebook page which was then liked and shared over 1000 times, including by the Peeblesshire News.
“Lots of people suggested I should turn it into a card or a calendar, so I decided to create some cards for our not for profit organisation, A Gift for Peebles, which I co-founded in the summer with Marion Anderson, also from Peebles.”
The cards are priced at £1.50 each and are on sale at a number of Peebles businesses including Tontine Hotel reception, Keystore, Rosetta Road, and At First Sight Beauty salon.
The cards have proved to be a success with over 200 orders being placed already, including orders from Scott Brash’s family, as well as creator of the sculpture, blacksmith Kev Paxton from ArtFe.
Angela said: “It has been lovely to hear that the cards are being sent to places far and wide this Christmas, including Ireland, France, South Africa and Australia!”
Angela and Marion’s organization A Gift for Peebles was set up to support local groups who make a difference to people’s lives within the community. Angela added: “Peebles has an amazing community spirit, something we have both benefited from through our various charity roles over many years.
“We wanted to give something back to Peebles to thank them for their generous support to us. The groups benefitting from our first year of fundraising and volunteering are Peeblesshire Youth Trust Christmas hampers, Tiny Toes, Nomad Beat, and Encore Arts.”
The cards are available now and orders are being taken up to December 20.
Larger orders can be placed by emailing angelapreston7@gmail.com or through the A Gift for Peebles Facebook page.
