A MOBILE post office is being brought to Melrose – following the resignation of the town's postmaster.
Up until last Friday, there was a counter in the Masons of Melrose bookstore.
But the Market Square shop closed on Friday after being sold by owners Tracey and David Mason.
However, post office bosses have announced a 'Mobile Outreach' van will be brought to the town, until a permanent home is found.
The service will begin on Monday, December 9 at Melrose Medical Centre in St Dunstan’s Park.
It will be operated by the postmaster from Denholm who will visit the community every Monday, 2.45pm to 4.15pm; Tuesday, 2.30pm to 4:15pm; Wednesday; 11am to 2.30pm and Thursday 2.45pm to 4.15pm.
Post office change Manager, Gail Burnett said: “We understand how important having a post office service is to residents in Melrose and we are confident this Mobile Outreach service will meet their needs while we continue to seek a permanent solution.
"To accommodate the new Melrose mobile service, we are making some changes to the current opening hours at Heriot, Oxton, Etterickbridge, Bowden and Bonchester Bridge Mobile services, from the week commencing Monday, December 9."
The next nearest options for customers in Melrose is to use the post offices in either Langlee or Channel Street, Galashiels.
