A BORDERS-based artist is bringing some Byzantine influence to a small museum in Selkirk.
From next month gold will dominate Halliwell's House as Alexandra Warren launches her exhibition in the Robson Gallery.
Born in New York and raised in Greece, Alexandra developed a love of Cycladic sculpture and Byzantine icons.
And despite spending the past 17 years in the Scottish Borders her work is still heavily influenced by the continuation of the Roman Empire.
Her magnificent human figures and extensive use of gold leaf reflect a lifetime's influence.
Alexandra told us: “I’m very happy and honoured to have the opportunity of a solo exhibition in the lovely Robson Gallery in the historic Halliwell’s House, Selkirk.
“I’ll be presenting large figurative pieces and a series of small figurative paintings.
"Each piece is created with gold leaf, paint and shellac on wood panel, all inspired by Greek Byzantine icons - since I was lucky enough to have spent my childhood in Greece.’’
The Traces of Gold exhibition opens on Saturday, March 28 and runs until the end of May.
Assistant curator Phoebe Stewart said: “We’re delighted that Alexandra Warren is exhibiting with us in the Robson Gallery at Halliwell’s House.
"Her exquisite work, reminiscent of Greek Byzantine art, is a must-see."
