TEN sheep have been killed in the Borders after suspected livestock worrying.

The dead animals, found at Halmyre Mains Farm near West Linton, are believed to have been killed yesterday (April 16) or the day before.

Police Scotland has issued a statement warning dog owners to make sure they always know where their animals are.

A spokesperson said: "Dog owners are asked to be aware of the effects of sheep-worrying, and let others know too.

"Make sure you know where your dog is at all times. If you're letting your dog off the lead, be confident there are no livestock nearby. Be sure that your dog will return to you promptly on command and if in doubt, keep them on the lead."

The spokesperson added: "We are appealing for witnesses to this incident or anyone who may have information in relation to this incident.

"If you have information you can contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting Incident 866, April 16, 2020.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers Anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The sheep are believed to have been killed at some point between 8.30am on Wednesday and 8.30am yesterday.
