THE leader of Scottish Borders Council (SBC) says she will write to hotel chiefs about possible job losses in Peebles.

Crieff Hydro Group, which operates Peebles Hydro and the town's Park Hotel, has announced plans to lose 241 staff across its even hotels.

Now Tweeddale East councillor Shona Haslam, who leads SBC, has vowed to offer any help she can.

She said: “The news of possible redundancies at Peebles Hydro is extremely concerning for the town and our community.

"As yet we just do not know what this will mean for employees in Peebles, it is just too early to tell at this point.

“I will be writing to the management of the Hydro, together with Prof Russell Griggs of the South of Scotland Enterprise Agency, to offer any help and assistance that we can to minimise job losses.

“Hopefully the Scottish Government will open up our tourism sector soon and we can start to welcome guests, safely, back into our town.”
