SAMMI Kinghorn appeared in a BBC television programme this week.
The wheelchair racer, from the Borders, featured in an episode of The One Show which aired on July 20.
Kinghorn, who was expecting to be competing in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, told viewers how she felt when she learned the prestigious event was being postponed due to coronavirus.
She said: “When I first heard Tokyo was going to be delayed, it was quite heartbreaking because I felt really strong and I felt really fast.
“But now I feel quite positive about knowing that I’ve got another year to get stronger.”
Asked about her goals, she said: “I’m aiming for gold because there’s no point being there if that’s not what I’m aiming for.”
The 24-year-old’s achievements include winning gold medals for 100m and 200m at the London 2017 world championships, and reaching three finals at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio (100m, 400m and 800m).
She is one of the fastest British wheelchair athletes ever.
Her entry into the world of elite sports came following an injury on her family’s farm in 2014.
The One Show episode, hosted by Alex Jones and Rylan Clark Neal, featured guests including journalist and author Caitlin Moran and chef Monica Galetti.
