A BORDERS school has won a prize in an international competition.

Jedburgh Grammar took the silver gong in the Best Education category at Wednesday's (December 9) Partnership Awards 2020, organised by Partnerships Bulletin, which recognises public-private partnership projects.

The Jedburgh campus won plaudits for its site which opened in March.

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) leader Shona Haslam said: "This award win is fantastic news and great recognition for Jedburgh Grammar Campus.

"The Campus is the culmination of some excellent partnership work over the past few years and we now have a first-class education setting for young people in the area from the age of two up to 18, as well as a facility that the wider community will benefit from and enjoy for years to come."

Jedburgh Grammar was built as part of a joint project involving SBC, Hub South East, BAM Construction and architects Stallan Brand.

Bruce Dickson, regional director for BAM Construction, said: "We never set out to win awards, but to design and construct buildings that completely meet and, if possible, exceed, the requirements of our clients and the communities we build for."

The £32 million site serves pupils aged two to 18 and offers community facilities too.

This year, the competition received entries for projects based across Europe, as well as in the Middle East and Australia.

The ceremony, held online on Wednesday, marked the 22nd annual event.

Jedburgh Grammar came in second place to Cumbernauld Academy & Community Theatre in North Lanarkshire.

Paul McGirk, chief executive of Hub South East, said: "Winning an award in the Best Education category is recognition of the true partnership working, collaborative design, quality construction and social value delivered on the Jedburgh Grammar Campus project.

"I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making this project a success.

"We’re particularly proud that we were able to demonstrate the flexibility and value of the Hub programme as discussions began from a standing start only 18 months before contract close (by which point construction had already progressed to steel structure stage)."
