A SELF-EMPLOYED ground worker has been fined £350 in a Borders court after reacting angrily when his partner said she wanted to leave him.
Jason Whiteford, 32, pleaded guilty to shouting and swearing and behaving in an aggressive manner at a property in Cuddyside, Peebles, on November 28, and in a police van.
Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that there had been an argument earlier and his partner had indicated she wanted to separate.
Whiteford went drinking in a local public house and when he returned to the property he began shouting and swearing at her and accusing her of wanting to leave him for another person.
He was also abusive to police officers in the van taking him to the station.
Whiteford said the offence was fuelled by alcohol and that he was remorseful and that the couple wanted to resume their relationship.
In addition to the fine, a £20 victim surcharge was imposed.
