A DRIVER has been described as lucky to be alive after crashing on a “dangerous” Borders road.
The incident was discussed at Galashiels Community Council on Wednesday, May 5.
John Birnie, a recent addition to the community council, said a woman driving a 4x4 near Lowood Bridge was involved in an accident with a fence.
“She’s lucky she wasn’t killed,” Mr Birnie said. “There’s three speed limits on a mile of road between Melrose and Galashiels.
“It goes from 20mph to 60mph to 40mph. It seems ridiculous. That road is really dangerous at the moment.”
Scottish Borders Council member Sandy Aitchison, an independent representative for Galashiels, said: “It seems a valid point. The white lining at the bottom of that road is almost non-existent.
“Maybe that area needs another look at.”
