AROUND 46,000 potholes in the Borders have been filled over the past three months, according to a councillor in the region.
The issue of potholes was brought up at a meeting of Melrose Community Council last week by Robin Chisholm.
Mr Chisholm said that some potholes "are turning into caves” around the town and asked if SBC could fill them in.
“Up Dingleton Road there’s some crackers of potholes and it would be quite good if somebody would come round with some shovels and tar and fill some of them in,” said Mr Chisholm.

“Douglas Road has got some huge ones in it. We just need somebody to go round and fill them in.”
Community council chairman William Windram said that it seemed “a straightforward and simple request” but that “this type of request is not simple to have a response from”.
Independent Leaderdale and Melrose councillor David Parker said that the council’s pothole programme is “currently underway”.
“Since the middle of March we’ve actually filled something like 46,000 [potholes] because they’re using both council and private contractors to do them,” said Mr Parker, who is also SBC’s convener.
Mr Parker added that Mr Chisholm should send him a list of the potholes in Melrose so somebody from SBC could inspect the site and then fill them in.
