POLICE IN the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses after the public toilets in Jedburgh were damaged by vandals on Sunday afternoon.
Officers say they would like to speak to anyone who was near the toilets or Information Centre located between the Canongate and Abbey Place, Jedburgh between 4pm and 5pm.
The sanitiser dispensers were damaged before being set alight and there was also evidence of attempts to burn toilet paper.
A member of the public alerted firefighters who quickly attended and the fire was controlled.
Police say that these public toilets have been targeted numerous times since the start of 2021 and vandals have caused damage by forcing the door breaking the lock, smashing tiles, breaking sanitiser dispensers and taps causing water damage.
A spokesperson said: “If you saw anything or know anything about this incident or previous damage caused then please contact us on 101 and quote incident number 2803 of the 25 July 2021.
“Alternatively, If you have any information about this, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.”
