BORDERS landmarks are due to appear on screen next week as part of a BBC Scotland programme celebrating Sir Walter Scott.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the famous author’s birth, 'In Search of Sir Walter Scott' will highlight the legacy and influence of the Bard.
Hosted by Damian Barr, the show will see the presenter travel to a variety of locations known to have inspired Scott’s writing, including Smailholm Tower and Doune Castle.

Damian said: “Walter Scott remains one of the world’s most famous writers…the pioneer of a new literary genre, historical fiction, he changed the way the world views Scotland and how we Scots see ourselves.”
Damian will also meet with a range of experts, including curator at Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott near Melrose, Kirsty Archer-Thompson.
The presenter – also known for hosting The Big Scottish Book Club – said: “His [Scott’s] legacy is all around us but he is almost invisible now. He outsold his contemporaries Lord Byron and Jane Austen, but these days Scott’s works are barely lifted off the shelves. Like a lot of people, I’ve got an idea about Scott, but is it accurate? So that’s why 250 years after his birth I’m going in search of Sir Walter Scott.”
In Search of Sir Walter Scott will air on BBC Scotland on August 10 at 10pm.
