COMMUNITY groups in Galashiels have put some colour back into the town.

Gala in Bloom, as well as other volunteers including the Ex Braw Lads & Lasses and Girl Guides, have been planting in Bank Street Gardens, at Old Gala House, the War Memorial, Gala Aisle, station platform/Interchange and at town signs.

A spokesperson said: “The volunteer group has now taken over the complete organisation and maintenance of the areas, with the council providing the grass cutting service. The Gala in Bloom group are a sub group of the community council and have been grateful for funding received from Hayward/Sanderson Trust, Gray/Sanderson Trust, The Galashiels British Legion, Dalgetty Bakers’ customers, Rotary Club Of Galashiels and council parking monies.

"This funding allowed the planting works to be carried at Bank Street Gardens by Raker Landscaping and at Old Gala House by Lowood Plant Nursery.

"Other individuals and groups have also given their time to improve the visual impact of the town with Energise Gala funding floral displays to enhance Tapestry Way at Douglas Bridge and Channel Street.”
