POLICE IN the Scottish Borders are urging the public to be vigilant after reports of bogus workmen offering power washing in the Dolphinton area.
Three men were seen in the village between 12 noon and 12.30pm on Friday, 3 September, and may have been using a small white van.
One is described as aged in his mid-20s, 5ft 8ins, of slim build with short dark hair. He spoke with a Scottish accent and was wearing a high-vis jacket.
The man offered power washing at what appeared to be a low-prices. He was unable to show any work credentials or ID when asked and then left.
Fortunately no one has reported any fraud but given the close proximity to the region, officers in the Borders are now advising anyone with concerns to keep the caller out of their house, ask them to leave and call the police immediately on 101.
Police say they would much rather attend a false alarm than have someone fall victim to a doorstep criminal and add that if the person refuses to leave your door, or you feel threatened or scared - call 999 and ask for the police.
In addition, if possible note down their description and the description of any vehicle they’re using, including make, model, colour and registration number.
