A SONGS of Praise to help raise funds for the Tearfund charity will take place at the Trinity Church in Galashiels on Sunday 3 October at 6.30pm
The event aims to raise much-needed funds for the people in war torn Afghanistan
Those attending have chosen a selection of old and new hymns to be sung at the event.
These include O For a Thousand Tongues, Will You Come and Follow Me, Father Hear the Prayer We Offer, The King of Love, Teach Me To Dance, In Christ Alone, Great in Thy Faithfulness, I Want to Walk with Jesus, The Old Rugged Cross, Out of My Bondage, Love Divine, Just As I Am, Beauty for Brokenness, Will your Anchor Hold, Bless My Lord Oh My Soul, There is a Redeemer, Blessed Assurance and Ye gates Lift Up Your Head.
In addition, the reverend Jim Wallace will play one of his songs and there will possibly be a solo from acclaimed soprano Mhairi Lawson.
Covid restrictions will determine the number of people permitted in the building on the night, but it is anticipated that everyone attending will be accommodated.
The seating will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and should the numbers be larger than the maximum permitted the event will be repeated at a later date.
All money raised will go to the Tearfund Afghanistan crisis appeal. The charity aims to help people affected by conflict in Afghanistan and need support now. Donations could provide an emergency food package (including flour, cooking oil, rice and beans) to a family who have lost their home.
Church Musician Dorothy Howden told us: “We all sympathise with the sorrow, pain, suffering and sheer devastation which these folks are enduring right now. Praying for them is all important and every church and its people are doing that right now, but I feel that we ought to try to do that little bit extra, which, in a small practical way, may be of some help to them. All monies donated will go to Tearfund and they are in a position to distribute money where it is most needed. “
