A HOUSING company wants to create 14 apartments and five houses in the grounds of a Borders mansion.
Granton Homes gave notice to Scottish Borders Council (SBC) of its intention to submit a planning application to build residential properties within the grounds of Kingsmeadows House, Peebles, in January.
And a recent report submitted to SBC on behalf of the company states that the proposed development will consist of 14 apartments and five “dwelling houses”.
The category B-listed Georgian mansion was refurbished to provide 12 residential apartments in 2016, the report adds.
On the development, the report states: “The scheme comprises a residential development on a site which comprises large areas of woodland to the extremities of the site.
“Given the scale of the development, it is considered that the proposals will have an element of impact on the setting and the local infrastructure.
“The site is adjacent to a number of existing residential developments and is already suited to residential use.
“The scheme will provide a range of storey heights, a 3-4 storey flatted block and 1.5 storey housing scheme, in keeping with the local context.”
Last year, the company pulled its plans to erect seven houses on a disused bowling green and tennis court at the site, following public objection.
At the time, SBC planning officer Ranald Dods said that particular proposal would be “detrimental to the woodland resource, the setting of the listed building and the character and appearance of the conservation area and not be acceptable on road safety grounds”.
Granton Homes bought the mansion and its grounds in 2014.
