POLICE in the Borders are investigating reports of people breaking into two houses and trying house and vehicle doors in the Croft Road and Oakfield Court areas of Kelso.
Officers say the incidents happened overnight Monday, October 4 into Tuesday, October 5.
Officers are appealing to householders to review any CCTV (including doorbell) footage they may have and contact them via 101 if any suspicious activity has been captured overnight recently.
Callers should quote incident number 0224 of October 5.
Police have also issued the following security advice: “Many thieves are actually opportunists who do not have to break in at all because a door or window has been left open or unlocked.
“Please remember to ensure that your doors and windows are locked and vehicles are secure.
“Make sure that no valuables are on display in vehicles even when parked in driveways.
“If you see any suspicious activity on or near your property then please contact Police Scotland immediately using 999 if the incident is ongoing otherwise call 101.
“Always consider your personal safety and do not put yourself at risk by confronting suspicious persons.”
