CHILDREN at Newlands Activity Centre spent their half term in the centre's new polytunnels and garden, taking part in a range of activities.

Newlands Kids, made up of children from the nursery at the centre learned about composting, planting seeds and how to identify different bugs.

Pippa Lobban, Newlands community gardener said: “The children are getting so much from exploring the garden.

"They are learning a lot about where their food comes from, as they are engaged in the whole process, from planting the seed through to eating the produce in their cooked healthy meals.

"In the lead up to COP26, the nursery has gratefully received funding from University of Edinburgh Local Grant to engage the children in environmental activities.

"This is just the beginning to what we hope will be a flourishing sustainable garden for many years to come."

The centre hopes to get local people from the wider community involved in the Newlands Grow Your Own project.
