SCOTTISH Borders Council (SBC) has issued a warning that “further strong winds” are expected over the next 24 hours.

The local authority also revealed the areas in the region it believes are still without power following damage caused by Storm Arwen.

SBC says that forecasters are predicting wet, cold and windy conditions over the next 24 hours, including northerly winds “of up to 60mph”.

A spokesperson said: “This may well result in further damage where trees and property have been destabilised by the winds during Storm Arwen.

“SEPA has also warned of the potential for high tides and overtopping on the east coast at high tide – around midday tomorrow. The flood barriers in Eyemouth will be deployed as a result.”

The spokesperson said the council’s response to the power outages in the region has been “hampered by a lack of information from Scottish Power Energy Networks”.

A spokesperson for the company said today that staff are “continuing to work around the clock to get everyone back on supply”.

  • Borthwick
  • Lower Burnmouth
  • Polwarth
  • Chirnside
  • Midlem
  • Reston and surrounding area
  • Surrounds of Cockburnspath
  • Mordington
  • Ruecastle
  • Ettrickbridge (partial)
  • Nisbet
  • St Mary’s Loch/Cappercleuch/Megget
  • Foulden
  • Area north of Kielder
  • Upper Teviothead
  • Surrounds of Grantshouse
  • Oxton (partial)
  • Yarrow Valley
