DOZENS of people turned out to the unveiling of a commemorative bench in memory of Frightened Rabbit frontman, Scott Hutchison in the grounds of Haining House on Saturday, November 27.
The former stately home which was given over to the public to be used as an arts centre was chosen as the perfect location for the beautifully crafted oak bench which has the words “While I'm alive, I’ll make tiny changes to the earth” emblazoned across the front.
These words were taken from the lyrics of Scott's song ‘Head Rolls Off’
Scott took his own life in May 2018 after suffering from depression and a charity in his name was launched to raise awareness about children and young people’s mental health issues.
The bench was made by three trainee female carpenters, and was crowdfunded by fans with money left over from another bench that was situated in Kelvingrove Park in 2019.
Ade Cartwright, the organizer of the bench fundraiser, said in a statement: “This bench is for all those out there who have been touched by Scott’s lyrics and music, his humour and humanity. It’s a place to put the headphones on and listen to his music and take a deep breath of fresh air, a place to sit down and have a good catch-up with friends, a place to celebrate Scott’s life and what he means to all of us. Also to just rest your weary legs, it’s a fair trek!”
