SOUTERS turned out in force at the weekend to kick off the festive season.
Large numbers battled the bad weather to see the Christmas lights being turned on.
And residents also enjoyed a farmers market, live music and a visit from Santa Claus himself.
Selkirk councillor and event organiser Caroline Cochrane said: “It was fantastic to see people coming out and enjoying the event on such a awful night, we have a great community spirit in Selkirk.
“A lot of work goes into events like this and it was a real team effort, but it was great to see some normality back.
“We had taken events like this for granted in the past when they really are about friends and family coming together for Christmas.”
Edith Scott, a member of the Selkirk Rotary Club added: “It was a great turnout despite the conditions and the farmers market was very well attended.
“I just enjoyed seeing people out and enjoying themselves, I loved to see the kids with Santa Claus getting a bit of normality back in their lives.”
