IN the last week of 2021 no new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the Borders, according to official figures.
Data published at 12pm today (Friday, January 7) by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows that from December 27 to January 2 no deaths recorded in the region where COVID-19 was listed on the death certificate.
The total number of Borders deaths by this measure for 2021 stands at 108.
There have been 212 deaths in the region since the pandemic began.
Across Scotland there have been 12,470 coronavirus-related deaths since March 2020.
And in the last 24 hours, more than 200 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the Borders.
The Scottish Government published updated statistics at 2pm today (January 7).
And the data shows that the region has now seen 15,975 cases of COVID-19 since March last year – a rise of 206 since yesterday.
There are 40 people in hospital in the Borders with recently confirmed cases of coronavirus, according to the figures – one more than yesterday.
The total number of cases in Scotland since the pandemic began now stands at 1,025,063.
