FUEL has been stolen from machinery working on a flood protection project in the Borders, according to police.
The reported theft happened between 4.30pm on Wednesday (January 12) and 7.30am on Thursday close to Whitlaw Farm, Liddesdale Road, Hawick.
The town’s flood defence scheme will be one of the “most comprehensive” ever built in Britain, according to a website dedicated to the project.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for information regarding a theft of red diesel which occurred between 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 12 and 7.30am on Thursday, January 13.
“Fuel was stolen from machinery working on the flood prevention scheme, parked close to Whitlaw Farm, Liddesdale Road, Hawick.
“Anyone with information regarding vehicles or persons seen in the area please contact 101 with the incident number 0525 of 13/01/2022.”
