The A7 has reopened following a crash involving a lorry yesterday afternoon. (Monday 7 February 2022)
Emergency services were alerted to the incident just before 2pm.
The articulated lorry which was carrying a digger was travelling round a bend near Glenmayne House on the road south of the Kingsknowes Roundabout when it crashed.
Trees at the side of the road appear to have prevented the vehicle from careering down the slope.
The crash could be heard as far away as Abbotsford House and one walker told the Border Telegraph that it sounded like an explosion.
The road was closed in both directions as police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene.
Local bus services were also disrupted and diversions were put in place.
A recovery operation was launched but the location made it difficult and the road remained closed for several hours before the lorry was removed.
A police spokesperson said: "Around 1.50pm police received a report of a lorry overturning on the A7 near Galashiels, blocking the road.”
The condition of the lorry driver is not known at this time.
A traffic lights system is now in operation at the scene.
