PEEBLES was reportedly struck by 'thundersnow' today as the town and surrounding areas are under a yellow weather warning for snow and lightning.
According to the Met Office, thundersnow occurs "when thunderstorms form in wintry conditions".
This creates heavy downpours of snow rather than rain.
The yellow warning for snow and lightning is in place until 8pm tonight (February 24) and there could be delays to travel as roads and rail services are affected.
Inland areas could see up to 7cm of snow fall, however, the Met Office says that the snow showers will turn back to rain as the day progresses.
Parts of the central Borders were also hit by heavy snow this morning, including Stow and Galashiels.
