A TEENAGE jockey’s first words after regaining consciousness following an horrific fall at Kelso races on Saturday (March 26 2022) were to enquire for the welfare of his horse.
Conner McCann (18) fell at the second jump while riding Diamond State and was treated on the track.
The teenager who has gained four wins from just 13 rides over jumps, had only just returned to action the previous day at Musselburgh having been out injured since January.
An air ambulance was called and arrived shortly after 3pm. After assessment he was taken to hospital in a vehicle ambulance.
He is currently in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with two broken ribs, three fractures in his thoracic vertebrae and a suspected fracture in his c6 vertebrae along with a tiny fracture of his fibula. Thankfully there was no sign of any head injury.
His first words on regaining consciousness were: “How’s Diamond? Is my horse OK? Are you sure he’s OK?”
