THE popular Greenhouse Café in Melrose will reopen under a new name next month.

The business has been bought by Saltire Hospitality based in Loanhead, who are an award-winning event catering business with a successful retail café division within 5-star visitor attractions such as Rosslyn Chapel and the National Library of Scotland.

Its patisserie business will provide its renowned strawberry tarts, homemade scones, cakes and other baked goodies to the café when it opens.

Owner David Peters is all too aware of the potential of the Melrose café as he moved to the area as a teenager and his parents still live in Gattonside.

He said: “Ross Allan who currently operates Greenhouse Café has built up a very successful business that I know is loved by locals. I want to grow on that, retaining the café’s regular customers and attracting the many visitors that come to Melrose throughout the year. Providing locally sourced produce and freshly baked goods from our bakery will be a key ingredient in doing that.

“I am excited to bring the Saltire family to the neighbourhood. Family values are really important to how we work as a collective. As we will be open seven days a week, we are looking for people to join our Café team, to work alongside those who will remain working with the café once the handover is complete.”

A further update of the café’s name and opening times will be available closer to the opening.

The business is on the hunt for local people to join their team and anyone interested in a position should email staff@saltirehospitality.co.uk.
