A BID to locate four handmade luxury timber glamping pods near a country estate has been unveiled.

An application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council by Coldingham-based Out There Holdings Ltd for four glamping units and associated parking to be located at The Paddock of the Coach House close to Press Castle village and estate in Coldingham.

The applicant says the site will be a “tranquil green area” which will be “amongst the best available in the area”.

A report submitted with the application by Edinburgh-based Glampitect says: “The plot is situated just off the A1 107, also known as School Road near Coldingham. The proposed glamping site will provide subtle and discreet countryside accommodation for tourists visiting the area’s attractions on short breaks and weekend stays.

“The client intends to support the natural environment by using solar panels to support the site as well as offering local produce from a nearby existing farm shop, this is to lower the carbon footprint and encourage economic benefit within the local area.

“The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise. At the moment there is a presence in the Coldingham area offering this kind of luxury pod accommodation. However, this site will be different as it is minimal in size and scale, offering a more tranquil experience.”
