SUPERMARKET giant Asda has announced that they are offering significant discount to shoppers who work in certain key occupations.
As inflation soars to nine per cent, many households are struggling with food bills.
But as of Thursday May 19 2022 workers in the NHS, emergency services, social care sector, mountain rescue, red cross, prison service and armed forces can now get 10% off their shopping, if they hold a Blue Light Card.
Items including food, drink, clothing, homeware and toys are all included, with shoppers claiming the discount by presenting their card to a cashier at the checkout.
In addition the supermarket chain has also removed a 12-week period new employees had to wait before they are entitle to discounts.
Haley Tatum, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer said: “Family budgets are under huge pressure right now – with our Income Tracker showing household incomes down by £16 per week in March and set to fall further.
"Bringing back the Blue Light discount and removing the qualifying period for our own colleague discount are additional ways we can support our customers and colleagues, alongside our ongoing efforts to reduce prices and invest in our colleague pay.”
