Due to the coronavirus pandemic Selkirk Common Riding has been on hold since 2019.

Since the last common riding the Selkirk community has been able to celebrate virtually, but the town made sure to go above and beyond to mark the welcome return of the festivities.

Provost Keith Miller said: "It's been absolutely perfect right from the start.

"There's obviously there's still a big appetite for the Common Riding.

"It was a concern that maybe folk had got used to not having one [a Common Riding] but obviously they've just been waiting for the day.

"I can't think I've seen a crowd of that size in a long, long time.

"It makes it all worthwhile."

Adam added: "I'm speechless at the number of folk that were here.

"I wasn't expecting as many horses as that.

"The people that have come out supporting and everything, it's just great.

"It's hard to put into words because after two years of having nothing you don't ken what to expect but it was absolutely brilliant."

The Provost shared what it's been like welcoming Adam as Standard Bearer this year.

He said: "Adam, from the day he was appointed, has been absolutely brilliant.

"He's done everything asked of him, he's worked hard.

"He speaks to everybody, young and old.

"A very popular Standard Bearer.

"A big thanks to him."

Despite the rain, Selkirk was definitely buzzing from the return of its Standard Bearer.

And for another year can say "Safe Oot, Safe In".
