A BORDERS water treatment facility is starting to take shape as components travel around 200 miles to the site.
The buildings for the Water Treatment Works on Bonnington Road, Peebles have been constructed by Ross-shire Engineering at their factory in Muir of Ord – nearly 200 miles away from Peebles.
The works – which is the largest of its kind in the UK with new water treatment technologies – were transported by road in 17 sections.
Each of the 17 sections weighed up to 36 tonnes and were expertly transported through the historic streets of Peebles, navigating the tight corners in collaboration with local residents who assisted the deliveries by relocating their cars.
John Shaw, project manager for the works, said: “The innovative technologies which have gone into this building are very impressive.
"From the construction methods, to the treatment equipment and the renewables, this has been one of the most exciting projects I have been involved in.
"I can’t wait to see it up and running.”
The multi-million-pound works are expected to be completed in six months.
The latest updates, including video of the building's progress, can be found on Scottish Water's website.
