A SOCIAL media survey is seeking to find out if there is still demand for a second Peebles Post Office.
More than 30 people have commented on Peebles and District Community Council’s (PCC) Facebook questionnaire which asks: “Has the loss of post office services in the Glen Road store created difficulties for the local community?”
Among those commenting was Marianne Wilson who told the Peeblesshire News: “It’s a big loss this side of the river where we have almost nothing in terms of services.
“It was far more accessible than the High Street post office, especially for the disabled or anyone with mobility issues such as chronic illness.”
Many other local residents took to the page to give their views.
Fendath Maciver said: “I miss the post office a lot. I did all my posting from there for work and personal packages and letters, returns and stamps. It is a big loss.
“I feel especially sorry for our pensioners on this side of town.”
Kerry Dennis added: “It is definitely missed, I used it for posting parcels, buying stamps and often used the shop for other items when in for post office matters.
“I moved to Peebles more than 10 years ago when there was a Post Office in Rosetta Road and the main one, as well as this one.”
John Miroslaw wrote: “We found it very convenient as we live south of the river.
“Used it perhaps once per week, particularly for parcels. Parking was easy unlike on the High Street.”
And Kathy Gilchrist added: “I miss the Glen Road post office. I used it two or three times a week to post parcels. While I am able to walk to the High Street, it takes twice as long and is not as convenient.”
Peebles Community Council also made an appeal to other businesses in the area who may be interested in offering postal services from their premises.
The Post Office’s website states: “If the operator can no longer run the branch we’ll seek to identify a new postmaster in the area and will advertise the opportunity on our website, runapostoffice.co.uk.
“If you know of any retail partners who may be interested in a vacancy, please do share the link.”
