A UNIQUE coat has been sent off to its new home after it helped to raise £500 for the crisis in Ukraine.

The art coat, 'Lyudmila', was created by West Linton artist Wilma Bouwmeester using local sourced woollen jumpers and was won by Kitti van Ramshorst, also of West Linton.

Kitti, the lucky winner of the coat, said: “I’m so thrilled to have won this beautiful coat.

"I’ve got a wedding coming up and it will fit really well with my outfit.

"The colours are stunning.

"Many thanks to Wilma for putting so much time, effort and love into it”.

The money raised from the coat raffle will go to the Disaster Emergency Committee's (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal to help those who have fled the war in Ukraine and those who remain in the country.

During the coronavirus lockdowns Wilma decided to make her wardrobe more environmentally friendly and began upcycling clothes she already had.

The Lyudmila coat was inspired by New York designer Katwise.

Wilma said: “I’m delighted with the result and the amount raised. I had hoped for £300 and seeing the total rise to just over £500 was absolutely amazing”.

Wilma's winter design collection will be available from The Knot in West Linton this autumn.
