When cautioned and charged by police McCuaig replied: "He hit me first."

However defence lawyer Stephanie Clinkscale said: "The accused tells me he was punched to the side of the head. He took his revenge on the first person he saw.

"However it may not have been the man who had punched my client."

She explained McCuaig also suffered a cut head during the incident.
