WARNINGS have been issued after reports of a new text scam.
Borderers have been warned not to fall for a text message scam claiming to help with a UK Government discount scheme.
The text invites victims to follow a link to apply for the £400 energy bill discount.
However, Scottish Borders Police have warned that following this link, and those found in similar scams, are designed to steal bank details and defraud those who provide their details.
A Scottish Borders Police spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of a new text message scam relating to the UK government energy bill discount scheme.
"Do not reply to texts or emails of this nature or follow any links – these are designed to gain your bank details and defraud you."
The £400 discount is automatically applied to households, and will be made in six instalments from next month directly from energy suppliers.
