FJORDHUS Reivers Ladies 1’s progressed to the next round of the Scottish Cup with an emphatic victory over Erskine Stewart’s Melville 2’s in bleak conditions at Tweedbank on Sunday October 9.
It was Reivers’ Chloe Richardson who opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a great run and reverse hit high into the net. Three minutes later Meghan Campbell doubled their lead after fine set-up play by Ella Mundell.
Near the end of the first quarter play was halted by a pitch invasion of the four legged kind.
Reivers started the 2nd quarter strongly whilst demonstrating attacking principles from the back line through, and Meghan Campbell doubled her goal tally to make it 3-0 for the home side, a lead which they comfortably held on to until half-time.
The first penalty corner of the game led to Reivers fourth goal two minutes after the break. Rhona Gowans converting after a goalmouth scramble.
10 minutes into the third quarter a fine team goal, with excellent passing play between Ella and Katie Macdonald led to Reivers 5th goal with the ball being perfectly guided into the net by Katie.
The last play of the third quarter was a Penalty Corner in Reivers favour. With the whole Reivers team up in attack, 2 ESM players were sent back to halfway for breaking the line and when Erin Lawrence injected the ball it was 3rd time lucky as Rhona then converted a clean strike into the bottom corner.
6-0 to Reivers heading into the last quarter. A blistering start to this last period saw Chloe get her 2nd goal from a well drilled Penalty Corner move, Hannah Miller netting, Ella scoring a well deserved goal for a solid individual performance and lastly Chloe converting her third of the game with a brilliant run and diving reverse hit into the top corner.
Her hat-trick and taking the overall and final score to 10-0 Reivers.
The Reivers’ players would like to give a special mention to their opponents, ESM 2s, who were very sporting and never gave up for the entirety of the game.
And also to the Umpires who let the game flow and never put a foot (pardon the pun) wrong.
Fjordhus Reivers 1’s are looking forward to their next National League fixture, taking on Strathclyde University at Tweedbank this coming Saturday.
