STAFF at McDonald’s in Galashiels held a Hawaiian Fun Day on Saturday to raise money for two worthwhile causes.
Team members dressed up for the occasion and local businesses generously donated items for the tombola.
McDonald’s Customer Experience Lead Fran Hughes said: “It was a brilliant day and the customers all loved our costumes.
“The local businesses were really generous, and we had things like drink, chocolates, watches, toys, a food hamper and vouchers for haircuts and car washes.
“And I’d like to say a special thanks to Richard Garrie from Adam Purves’ Shell Garage for his kind donation of a £150 fuel voucher.
“An incredible £1,517 was raised on the day which will be split between the TD1 Youth Hub and the Ronald’s McDonald’s House Charity.”
TD1 Youth Hub is a youth work organisation based in Galashiels which works with young people aged 11 to 25.
The charity respects, values and engages with young people to address their needs by offering support, guidance and opportunities to shape their own futures.
Manager Douglas Ormiston said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive £500 from McDonald’s in Galashiels.
“We have been fortunate in the past to receive support from local businesses and this shows a buy in from the local community which is very important to us.
“We’ve not decided exactly what the money will be spent on but it will probably go toward out Christmas dinner with presents which we have each year for young people and is always very well attended.
“Or it may go to helping young people struggling with the cost of living particularly with the rise in energy prices and the colder nights drawing in.
“So I’d like to thank everyone at McDonald’s for this terrific gesture.”
The remainder of the money will go to the Ronald McDonald’s House charity which provides accommodation for families near specialist children’s hospitals where they can rest, cook and take time out.
Each house also has staff who are there to provide help and support to the families, so they can focus on giving their child the care they need.
