SCOTTISH Borders Council has officially opened the doors to Inspire Learning: Tweedbank - a new Centre of Excellence; state of the art facility, providing a digital training space where equal access to technology will be available to young people, families, business and organisations.
The new facility will expand on the digital investment of Inspire Learning, the multi-award-winning education transformation programme in the Scottish Borders.
In 2019 Scottish Borders Council agreed on an extensive investment in a world class digital learning environment across schools.
All pupils in SBC secondary schools and pupils in P6-7 received iPad’s.
The programme was expanded to include P4 and 5s during the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspire Learning has transformed teaching and learning across the Borders benefiting teachers, children and young people.
Inspire Learning: Tweedbank will provide access to technology to all and will offer professional development to staff and young people across the authority and beyond, helping to build and develop digital skills and prepare young people for an increasingly digital world of work.
The launch of the facility comes at a time where the importance of the role technology will play in delivering education in the future has been increasingly emphasised, something the Scottish Government has outlined with its commitment to provide a digital device for every learner and emphasised education should be supported and enhanced by technology i).
It is also an example of SBC being at the forefront of the national conversation around digital learning and demonstrates the Council’s commitment to making the Scottish Borders the best place in the world to teach and learn.
Lesley Munro, Director of Education and Lifelong Learning said: “We are delighted to finally welcome colleagues, pupils and the wider community to Inspire Learning: Tweedbank. Our ambition for this facility is to be the centre of excellence for digital training in Scotland, and to transform education with technology.
“We are extremely proud that the Scottish Borders is leading in digital learning and we see many potential opportunities for our teachers and young people as leading members of a global community of best practice in education. We see this as a way to add enormous richness and value to learning experiences in our region.”
Councillor Leagh Douglas, Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, added: “The future of work is changing and we need our children and young people to be prepared for it. Inspire Learning: Tweedbank will focus on enhancing young people’s digital skills, preparing them for work now and in the future.
“We will soon be bringing forward more detailed plans for this new venture and look forward to sharing these with everyone as we enter such an exciting new chapter in the Inspire Learning journey.”
