A BORDERS artist is encouraging others to join her in discovering the joy of making your own clothes.
During the coronavirus lockdowns, Wilma Bouwmeester, of West Linton, decided that she no longer wanted to buy 'new' clothes, and wanted to make the items she already had last longer.
So, inspired by other people's creativity online, she began upcycling clothes, turning pieces she already had into new garments.
And now Wilma is hoping to share her new found joy of upcycling her wardrobe with others who are either interested in adopting a 'make do and mend' mindset or who already have experience in upcycling.
"I wanted to build on this thing I discovered over lockdown of making clothes out of existing garments," said Wilma. "I don't want to buy new things, I want to remake my clothes."
The creative group meets once a month to share tips and tricks on the best ways to breathe new life into a piece of clothing or makes suggestions on how to repurpose items.
Meeting on the first Friday of the month, the next meeting of the upcyclers will be on November 4, and the final meeting of the year will take place on Friday, December 2.
The sessions will run from 10.30am until noon at the West Linton Village Centre.
Tea and coffee will be available and any donations are welcome on the door to help cover costs.
To register your interest before Friday, and for more information, contact Wilma on 07739 988087 or by emailing her at: wilma@sustainableheritage.org
