THE Scottish Borders Community Action Team (SBCAT) have been concentrating on road safety issues in recent weeks. And in particular speeding outside schools.
The SBCAT consist of officers funded by Scottish Borders Council on top of the Police Scotland strength to concentrate on quality-of-life issues affecting local communities.
Last week officers were outside Lilliesleaf Primary School addressing concerns regarding speeding and parking near the school.
Officers also attended Broughton Primary School and carried out speed checks with the helpful assistance of the school's Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs). A number of residents stopped to pass on their appreciation for the excellent work completed.
Similar checks were undertaken at Chirnside Primary School and Kingsland Primary School.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Please remember the speed limit is not a target to aim for; the limit may be inappropriate in a congested area where children are trying to cross the road.
“Parking illegally makes it more dangerous for the children to cross; always slow down and be prepared to react quickly if a child suddenly steps out.”
