THE Ettrick and Lauderdale Sports Awards ceremony took place on Friday October 28 at Gala Rugby Club.
And there were a number of deserved winners in a variety of categories.
The 2022 Sports Personality award was won by Sarah Robertson
In the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, Sarah was a Baton bearer as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay and during the games, as captain she led her team to beat South Africa (4-2) and Kenya (11-0) during the Commonwealth Games.
Sarah has also represented Great Britain at the Olympics bringing home a bronze medal
More recently as part of the Scotland Women’s team, Scotland won Gold in the EuroHockey Qualifier D and qualified for the EuroHockey Championships 2023.
Her next focus for the GB team is Paris 2024.
The award was sponsored by Sykes and presented by David Liddle.
Other recipients included Hannah Bradley (P.H.D FUNdamentals) who collected the Junior Coach of the Year award.
Hannah is considered to be a great asset to her team at P.H.D FUNdamentals Trampoline and Gymnastics Club due to her affinity to work with young people. including those just a few years younger than her.
The award was sponsored by Gall Robertson and presented by Sheila Robertson.
Emma Pate (Fjordhus Reivers) won the Coach of the Year award.
Emma joined Fjordhus Reivers in 2018 as a player and has since become an integral part of the coaching team where her stand out attribute is her empathy, value of, and support for every player.
The award was presented by Trevor Bryant.
Gala Waverley Bowling Ladies Section won the Team of the Year award.
The Gala Waverley Bowling Ladies section reached the Scottish National Bowling Finals and made it into the last 32 in Scotland.
The pair of Wendy Cowan and Carla Upton and the triple of Christine Kellett, Donna Paterson and Lauren Gregg won the district finals.
To have had such a successful season is no mean feat considering the ladies section is one of the smallest across the Scottish Borders.

Gala Rugby Club won the Club of the Year award.
Gala Rugby had success on the pitch as well with the Senior Club finishing second in the league in a decider against Heriots on the final Saturday of the season.
They are a club that enjoys encouraging rugby for all ages and abilities and the premises are used for a number of community activities.
One of Gala RFC major community events is Maroon’d which has taken place over the past two years. This is a free event for all the family which involves rugby at all levels for people of all ages from tots to senior adults.

The SALSC Service to Sport Award went to Steven Headspeth (Gala RFC)
Steven has been actively associated to Gala rugby club for in the region of 25 seasons always in attendance during Tuesday and Thursday training and match day Saturday, home or away.
The award was presented by Rick Kenney
The Disability Award went to Daniel Porter
In April Daniel was selected to represent Scotland at the Para Home Nations held in Solihull Indoor Bowls Club winning all four games and was the only player undefeated all weekend.
Currently the youngest Club President in the 160 years club history when he took up the role at just 26 years of age in 2018. Eight years on he now the Vice President of Teviotdale Indoor Bowling Club.

Junior Sports Personality was won by Isla Paterson (Gala Harriers)
Isla has represented Gala Harriers at the Borders Cross Country series before moving on to compete in the Forth Valley League with Team Borders
She won the Borders Schools Cross Country Isla three years in a row before COVID-19 stopped the event and in September 2022 she was once again a part of the silver medal winning U17 female team competing at the Junior Home International mountain running event at Ambleside.
