A 34-YEAR-OLD woman who caused a disturbance in Peebles and then assaulted a police officer has been ordered to pay a total of £350 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Kathleen Dykes had been staying at the Peebles Hydro Hotel last October but a late night argument developed with her partner.
Hotel guests complained about the noise from the commotion and staff eventually asked the couple to leave.
Depute fiscal Drew Long said they were taken to the Eastgate in Peebles where efforts were made to find them a taxi to take them back to Edinburgh where they lived at the time.
But Dykes became angry and started kicking the back of a seat and was told to leave the vehicle.
Her behaviour was described as “manic” and when police officers arrived she verbally abused them.

She had to be handcuffed in an effort to calm her down but her hand slipped out of a cuff and she punched an officer on the body.
Mr Long said Dykes eventually calmed down and made no reply to caution and charge.
Her lawyer told the court that Dykes suffered from a bi-polar disorder and the combination of alcohol led to her behaviour.
He added: “They had gone to Peebles Hydro but had too much drink and there was a falling out. The relationship was on its last legs and has subsequently ended.
“Police found her crying in the street and tried to assist her. But unfortunately she has behaved in the way described towards the police officers.
“She is grateful to the officers who ultimately ended up driving her home to Edinburgh.”
Dykes, now living in Mid Calder, was fined £100 for threatening or abusive behaviour and £230 for police assault with a £20 victim surcharge.
