A CHRISTMAS Eve power outage caused some disruption for last minute shoppers in Galashiels on Saturday.
Around 5.20am a loss of power affected Tesco along with other shops in the Gala Water Retail Park including Boots, Next and Marks and Spencer.
The fault was caused by two cable faults on the High Voltage network into Galashiels,
The nearby Asda store remained open and customers flocked there.
Many shoppers took to social media to warn others as Asda started to sell out traditional Christmas fare.
Engineers attended the scene and power was restored around 9am.
Around 320 customers in Galashiels were affected.
However a second power outage occurred at 12.20pm in the afternoon resulted in some businesses deciding to close up early on what is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year.
That fault was repaired at 1.10pm.
Scottish Power Energy Networks engineers responded quickly to both faults and made repairs.
A Scottish Power spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the faults on the HV network, our engineers attended as quickly as possible and resolved the issue”.
